Eight Things We Were Doing Instead of Updating

1. Escaped from Gulag

After our wildly popular article Sochi or Fallout? and the subsequent Letter to Editor sent in by Mr. Vladimir Putin himself were published, the Russian government was understandably curious about our investigative journalist team and overall creative process. We were invited to an estate in Northern Russia where we had a number of very comfortable and not at all torture-y conversations with Russian officials.

2. Our day jobs

Hahahahaha, right.

3. Returned the visits each of you have made to our site, in person

We knocked on your doors and rang your doorbells, but no one answered. In fact Pope was pretty sure he saw the lights go off once we started walking up your sidewalk. You guys aren’t trying to avoid us, right? I mean, you’re probably just busy. It happens, we’re not mad. But you’re still coming to our party, right?

4. Interviewed Rob Ford; accidentally got high on crack

What can we say? He’s a persuasive man. Even after he admitted to smoking crack and driving drunk, people are still ready to vote for him, so we wanted to meet the man and find out what makes him tick.

It’s crack, by the way. Crack cocaine is what makes Rob Ford tick.

Like, a lot of it. Shaking his hand results in an immediate contact high, and let’s not even get into how much crack he forced us to smoke at gunpoint. It was only on the ride back from that elementary school playground that we realized the gun was actually a water pistol filled with pocket-temperature gin for the ride back to the office.

5. Interviewed bear; accidentally got mauled to death

We’re always trying to bring you the most accurate information possible, so to that end, we ventured deep into the forest to find a bear so we could ask a few questions about the BearFacts we currently have in development. As it turns out, bears are very private creatures who don’t appreciate all the press. After a few hours of pleasant conversation at the local Starbucks, we had gained a new-found respect for these majestic creatures. Then we were promptly eviscerated by 9-inch-long claws and teeth made of actual lasers.

6. Invested our retirements into DOGE

In today’s uncertain economic climate, traditional investments just aren’t as stable. We have no idea what that means, but an old man on TV said it, so we took it to heart. The WNV retirement plan has moved from a traditional 401(k) to being entirely funded by Dogecoin, allowing us to take full advantage of the kind of stability that only internet Monopoly money can provide. Or, at least, it will be as soon as we can find an exchange that accepts oddly sticky pictures of Christopher Walken.

7. Captured Malaysian jumbo jet for personal use

While we have been making great progress with our advertising revenue, $2.06 was not meeting our goal of arriving at PAX East in our own private jet, so we needed to improvise. We’d heard that the Chinese are great at pirating DVDs and other American brands, so we traveled there in order to learn from the masters themselves. After months of training by assembling Apple products and Nike shoes, we were finally ready. We had boarded and commandeered the next trans-Pacific plane we could find and rerouted it toward PAX East when it occurred to us that the event was being held in our own city and we really could have just taken a bus. And, so, we have been flying for days, using our skills to pirate fuel from other flights, dreading the awkward moment when we land and everyone thinks we look dumb. Some say we’re still up there, somewhere, hiding from our own mistakes.

8. Literally Nothing, Fuck You

Seriously, what did you expect?
